Hike to Platak (National Park Risnjak)

Rijeka and the surroundings have over forty arranged paths and various types of hiking trails. The cleverly designed network of paths of the city of Rijeka, with which it is possible to visit the most important features of the city, continues onto some of the well-known hiking trails of Rijeka and the surroundings. A city walk effortlessly turns into a walk along the sea, a day’s walking along the forest paths or even the serious conquering of the mountain peaks from where the whole of Kvarner can be seen.  National Park Risnjak, one of Croatia's best kept secrets! See the famous Schlosser hut, optionally scramble to the top of the rocks and see the sea on clear days.

On 18th June 2021 hikers, mountain guides, sport athletes and youth workers from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia and Italy took a hike in National park Risnjak. Goal was to reach Snježnik (1506 asl). Rijeka sport association has provided packed lunch and hiking tour was led by mountain guide Silvio Kezele. The rocky peak surrounded by mountain meadows has surprises us pleasantly with its picturesqueness during the late spring. The plants of this area is adapted to the most difficult climate conditions and tolerates without any difficulties the summer’s boiling heat, the severe cold and wind, whilst the view that extends from the lookout at 1506 metres above sea level is one of the most beautiful in Croatia.

Taking a hike near Rijeka and enjoying the great outdoors is something everyone loved. It simply made participants from 4 countries. Everyone enjoyed breathing clean, fresh air, hearing the serene sounds of nature, and walking on a soft grass. Everybody needed a little break from technology – smartphones, computers, tablets, television, movies, internet, video games, and so on.

All participant's agreed that getting outside means getting into natural light, which means increasing our natural Vitamin D intake. This essential nutrient can help prevent cancer, heart attacks, obesity, diabetes, and inflammation, strengthen our immune systems and bones, and fight osteoporosis and depression.
